Deciding to begin in vitro fertilization (IVF) is a big step—one filled with both hope and uncertainty. For many couples, IVF is a light at the end of a long and emotional journey. But stepping into that first cycle can bring a mix of excitement, questions, and nerves.
At Vrinda Fertility, we believe in making every patient feel informed, supported, and confident. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect during your first IVF cycle.
1. Initial Consultation and Fertility Assessment
Your IVF journey starts with a detailed consultation with a fertility specialist. At Vrinda Fertility, this includes:
- A review of your medical history
- Blood tests and hormone evaluations
- Ultrasounds to assess ovarian reserve and uterine health
- Semen analysis for male partners
This helps us create a personalized treatment plan that gives you the best possible chance of success.
2. Ovarian Stimulation (8–14 Days)
You’ll begin taking hormone injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs (rather than the one egg released naturally each month). These medications are carefully monitored to:
- Maximize egg production
- Prevent complications like ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
You’ll come in regularly for ultrasounds and blood tests, so we can track your response and adjust your medications if needed.
3. Egg Retrieval (OPU – Ovum Pick-Up)
Once your follicles are mature, you’ll receive a “trigger shot” to prepare for egg collection.
- The egg retrieval is a minor surgical procedure done under light sedation.
- It usually takes 15–20 minutes.
- You can go home the same day with minimal discomfort.
4. Fertilization and Embryo Development
Your retrieved eggs are fertilized in our state-of-the-art IVF lab using your partner’s (or donor’s) sperm. At Vrinda Fertility, we use cutting-edge techniques like ICSI and time-lapse imaging to select the healthiest embryos.
Over the next 3–5 days:
- Embryos are monitored as they develop
- Our embryologists assess which are suitable for transfer or freezing
5. Embryo Transfer
Typically, one or two high-quality embryos are transferred into the uterus. This is a quick, painless procedure—no anesthesia required.
If you have extra viable embryos, they can be cryopreserved (frozen) for future use.
6. The Two-Week Wait & Pregnancy Test
After embryo transfer, you’ll begin progesterone support to help the uterus prepare for implantation. Then comes the emotional part: the two-week wait.
- A blood test will confirm whether the embryo has successfully implanted.
- Regardless of the result, our team is here to guide your next steps with compassion and clarity.
